A partner was working with us on an opportunity. At some point in the process, the customer tripped my alarms. This was going well into 2×4 material (e.g. our proposal wasn’t going to be seriously considered).
I shared my thoughts with the partner. They wanted to press ahead.
Sure enough, we got word of our 2×4-ness today.
Nice to know we helped a customer beat a competitor up.
Well, no, not really. But it was nice to see that my intuition was dead on.
When 2×4-ish positions are taken, its best to walk away. Your value isn’t seen as value, and nothing you can do will salvage it. Its pretty much time to move on to work with the next customer.
